Samsung Research America is seeking Ph.D. students for a Fall 2026 internship within the AI Research Center. This role focuses on developing adaptive, personalized, and secure AI models and systems designed to enhance interactions on Samsung devices. Interns will contribute to research projects that impact products used by millions of users globally.
What you'll do#
- Develop and implement novel deep learning and reinforcement learning algorithms for natural language processing applications, including text and speech.
- Contribute directly to ongoing team research activities.
- Generate creative solutions for patent applications and author research papers for submission to top-tier conferences.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in a neural network library such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Large Language Models (LLM) including architecture, training/finetuning, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), and reasoning/action planning.
- Conversational AI, including NLP, semantic parsing, natural language generation, dialogue state tracking, and representation learning.
- Knowledge augmented AI, such as language prompting, knowledge graphs, or neuro-symbolic learning.
- Multimodal AI technologies or on-device AI, including lightweight model architecture design.
- Autonomous systems development, including agent memory, tool use, and decision-making.
- A demonstrated track record of research or publications in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Location & details#
- Location: Mountain View, California (On-site).
- Term: Fall 2026 (3-month internship between September and December).
- Compensation: This is a paid, full-time internship with an hourly pay rate range of $48—$63 USD.
