Pharmacy Intern

About the role#

This is a full-time, paid Pharmacy Intern position based on-site at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. The role involves supporting pharmacy operations by performing tasks that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist, while ensuring compliance with department policies and regulatory standards.

What you'll do#

• Prepare IV sterile preparations in accordance with USP 797 guidelines.
• Assist pharmacists with dispensing functions, including processing prescriptions, matching labels, and filling floor requisitions.
• Perform Pyxis fill functions, order entry, and inventory management, including 340b compliance training.
• Participate in preparations for Federal, State, and specialty pharmacy accreditations, as well as HIPAA compliance requirements.
• Provide customer service by addressing patient and co-worker needs with empathy and ensuring follow-up.
• Monitor departmental productivity and adjust to operational needs such as shift changes and flexing hours.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an accredited Pharmacy Graduate Degree Program is required.
• Completion of at least one year of a Pharmacy Graduate Degree Program is preferred.
• Prior hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.
• Must hold a Pharmacy Intern license from the Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) upon hire.
• Academic background in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, or Chemistry.
