The Music Librarian Intern supports the daily operations of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra music library. This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in music librarianship while supporting the orchestra's artistic mission.
What you'll do#
- Assist with daily library tasks, including photocopying, scanning, marking bowings, and correcting page turns and errata.
- Utilize OPAS Next and OPAS Online arts administration software.
- Participate in backstage operations for concerts held at Heinz Hall and other venues.
- Catalog and maintain library holdings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably with a focus on Music Performance or Music Education.
- Ability to read music and a working knowledge of orchestral literature.
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to multitask.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Preferred: Knowledge of string bowings, technique, foreign language terminology, and transpositions.
Location & details#
- Location: Heinz Hall, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Commitment: 12-20 hours per week.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Students must be eligible to receive college credit or qualify for a work study program.
