NVIDIA is seeking a Java Engineering Intern to join the cuVS team. This role focuses on developing, benchmarking, and implementing custom solutions for accelerating vector preprocessing, clustering, indexing, and search. You will work on building blocks for Java-based libraries such as Lucene and JVector, which support databases like OpenSearch, Solr, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch. The work involves optimizing disk-based indexing and utilizing hardware to handle data volumes beyond current CPU-centric capabilities.
What you'll do#
- Analyze, design, and implement optimized GPU algorithms for large-scale vector search, databases, and machine learning.
- Expand and improve the integration of NVIDIA cuVS into high-level vector search libraries and vector databases.
- Conduct performance analysis, benchmarking, and troubleshooting of associated libraries.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD program in Data Science, Machine Learning, or Computer Science.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills with a foundation in algorithms and mathematics.
- Excellent software development skills, including programming, debugging, performance analysis, and test design, with specific expertise in the Java ecosystem and the JVM.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as Lucene, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
- Strong communication and documentation habits.

- Compensation: Hourly rate of 20 USD - 71 USD, based on position, location, year in school, degree, and experience.
