Student - Facilities & Grounds Student Worker

About the role#

Newman University is seeking a Facilities & Grounds Student Worker to assist in maintaining the campus environment during the Summer 2026 term. This role involves supporting the Facilities team with daily upkeep, event logistics, and general maintenance tasks.

What you'll do#

• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of campus grounds, including sidewalks, entrances, parking lots, and outdoor gathering spaces.
• Assist with furniture moving, office relocations, event setup and teardown, and room reconfigurations.
• Provide support for basic non-technical maintenance, including painting preparation, patching, hanging items, and replacing ceiling tiles.
• Assist with preventive maintenance tasks, such as equipment cleaning and maintenance preparation.
• Keep maintenance shops, storage areas, and tools organized.
• Report safety, maintenance, or appearance concerns to the Facilities staff.
• Operate basic hand tools and grounds equipment safely after receiving training.
• Assist with snow and ice removal during winter weather conditions as needed.

What you'll need#

• Must be a current full-time Newman University student enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.
• Ability to work 12–20 hours per week, with schedules coordinated around your classes.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable attendance, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently once trained.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform manual labor for extended periods.
• Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds and navigate stairs while carrying supplies.
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Experience with basic hand tools or lawn equipment is preferred but not required.
