Metro is seeking a Summer Intern for West Coast Stevedore Operations to support the integration and documentation of payroll and operational workflows. This role provides hands-on experience in process improvement, system validation, and the product development lifecycle. You will work closely with Operations and Payroll teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency as the company prepares for the rollout of the Tides union payroll timekeeping system in Long Beach.
What you'll do#
- Map current and future-state workflows, identifying process gaps and proposing efficiency improvements.
- Create structured documentation for payroll operations, including exception workflows, validation steps, and audit-ready reporting.
- Convert existing training videos and materials into formal written reference guides.
- Participate in the Tides system rollout by testing scenarios, verifying time-keeping entries, and troubleshooting errors.
- Collaborate across departments, including IT, to align business requirements with system functionality.
- Attend sprint meetings to observe the software development and change management lifecycle.
- Develop and refine dashboards and metrics to monitor operational accuracy and compliance.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Business or a related field.
- Ability to quickly learn complex workflows and translate them into clear, organized documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-departmental collaboration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Willingness to learn technical tools and payroll systems like Tides.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently while remaining receptive to supervisor coaching.

- Compensation: $25.00 per hour.
