About the role#
The Geospatial Analytics & Mapping Intern will support the T4D data science team in enhancing geospatial operations and products for humanitarian and development work. This role involves contributing to applied GIS and remote sensing projects, productionizing workflows in cloud environments, and developing AI-supported geospatial processes. The intern will assist in building internal capacity and ensuring the organization has the necessary tools and data structures to meet program needs.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with the T4D data science team to pilot ArcGIS Enterprise, including setting up the instance and creating training materials.
- Develop maps, visualizations, and analyses to support Ebola response efforts.
- Perform ad-hoc geospatial analysis and map production for HQ and country teams using desktop software or programmatic workflows.
- Source, clean, and prepare data for analysis and contribute to an inventory of geospatial tools and data sources.
- Research new geospatial tools and develop training resources for the organization.
- Productionize geospatial analyses using cloud platforms and implement AI-enabled workflows to automate periodic tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree in GIS, Geography, Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.
- Practical experience with geospatial analysis using software such as QGIS or ArcGIS.
- Experience with geospatial programming in Python or Google Earth Engine.
- Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT for geospatial workflows.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency with geospatial data formats, projections, and transformations.

- This is a remote internship based in the United States.
- The term runs from August 2026 through December 2026.
- This is a part-time position at 20 hours per week.
- The internship is a paid position.
