Accounting Intern

About the role#

As an Accounting Intern at MassMutual Ascend, you will gain hands-on experience within the Annuity Finance organization. You will be responsible for a small book of business, performing day-to-day accounting functions ranging from journal entries to financial analysis. This role provides exposure to core accounting workflows and the opportunity to collaborate with finance leaders.

What you'll do#

• Record monthly journal entries and review trial balances in the general ledger system.
• Prepare reports, schedules, and financial statements for management use.
• Assist with the analysis of statutory and GAAP financial statements.
• Develop a foundational understanding of statutory and GAAP accounting guidance specific to the insurance industry.
• Maintain updated documentation of processes and tasks.
• Compose analytical schedules and gather information for independent auditors.
• Participate in process improvement activities and support the department with routine accounting tasks.

What you'll need#

• Currently entering at least your 2nd year of higher education, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Ability to work a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong time management and prioritization abilities.
