This internship provides an opportunity to support the Child Welfare program at Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. Interns gain practical experience in child welfare practices, including policy and procedure, trauma-informed care, and the legal processes surrounding foster care and family reunification. This is an unpaid position requiring 15-20 hours per week, including one evening shift.
What you'll do#
- Supervise parent-child visits and intervene when necessary.
- Document all contact and interactions.
- Develop service and visitation plans for families.
- Participate in group supervision, bi-weekly team meetings, and agency-provided trainings.
- Engage in tasks related to juvenile court, legal screening, and family team meetings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a relevant field such as Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Public Health, Human Resources, Nursing, Criminal Justice, or Business Administration.
- Availability to begin training during the summer, with one required day in June, July, and August.
- Ability to pass criminal and CANTS (DCFS) background checks.
- Comfort performing in-home family visits.
- Proof of current car insurance; use of a personal vehicle may be required.
