Internship, BHS- Outreach and Education

About the role#

This internship focuses on outreach and education for behavioral health programs. You will work alongside the Outreach & Education Manager to increase awareness of services, improve access to treatment, and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and substance use. This role involves significant time in the community, engaging with partners and the public on the North and Northwest sides of Chicago.

What you'll do#

• Engage the community at a grassroots level by visiting schools, churches, and food pantries to share information about behavioral health.
• Collaborate with Communications, Behavioral Health staff, and Program Leadership to develop marketing materials, curriculum, and content.
• Provide marketing support to build program census and promote services.
• Execute Community Outreach Plans and attend networking and community events to represent the organization.
• Maintain professional standards and integrity when interacting with clients, families, and community partners.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a human services or marketing field.
• Excellent organizational, presentation, and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• A valid driver’s license in good standing and access to a car for travel between the office and community events.
• Valid Illinois statutory minimum liability insurance coverage for bodily injury and property damage.
• A strong interest in community outreach and behavioral health.
• Bilingual skills in Spanish are a plus.
• Successful completion of a background check.

• Location: Des Plaines, Illinois.
• Term: Fall 2026.
• Modality: On-site.
• Commitment: 12-20 hours per week; Saturday availability is a plus.
• Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
