The Talbot Lab in the Basic Sciences Division is seeking an undergraduate intern to support research on neuro-immunology and host-microbiota interactions in infectious diseases. This role provides an introduction to a laboratory environment, focusing on how neurons regulate intestinal immunity. The position is unpaid and requires the student to receive academic credit from their institution.
What you'll do#
- Work under the direction of the Principal Investigator and senior laboratory personnel.
- Assist mentors with performing and analyzing experiments.
- Develop practical lab skills, including immune cell isolation, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, image analysis, animal dissection, and microbiology techniques.
- Learn to evaluate scientific articles and apply the scientific method.
- Commit up to 19 hours per week for a duration of 6 months.
What you'll need#
- Status as a motivated undergraduate student interested in research.
- Coursework or laboratory experience in biology.
- Experience in mathematics or statistics for data analysis.
- Knowledge of chemistry to support wet lab research.
- Written confirmation from an academic advisor verifying eligibility for school credits.
