Sensor Development & Manufacturing Engineering Intern

About the role#

This internship focuses on the development and optimization of electrochemical sensor technologies for biological applications. You will gain hands-on experience in the design, development, and manufacturing of ion-selective electrodes and metabolite sensors. Working within an R&D and manufacturing environment, you will collaborate with engineers and scientists to improve sensor performance, production yield, and scalability.

What you'll do#

• Support the manufacturing and testing of ion-selective electrodes using biological samples.
• Assist with the fabrication, verification, and validation of metabolite sensors.
• Perform electrochemical characterization, including Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Open Circuit Potential (OCP), Chronoamperometry (CA), and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS).
• Analyze and visualize data using Python and JMP.
• Develop manufacturing and process improvement solutions to optimize sensor performance.
• Maintain experimental records and documentation following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
• Support process transfer from R&D to production and contribute to automation or mechanical integration projects.
• Participate in technical discussions and assist in preparing materials for scientific conferences.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong interest in sensor development, electrochemistry, biotechnology, or advanced manufacturing.
• Basic understanding of laboratory techniques and experimental documentation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
• Availability to work 30–40 hours per week.
