About the role#
Fairbanks Morse Defense is seeking an Engineering Co-op to join our team in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is a rolling, full-time, paid internship opportunity. You will work alongside our engineering team to gain hands-on professional experience in marine design and the manufacturing of critical shipboard systems. This position requires access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is not releasable to foreign nationals. Therefore, candidates must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and attest that they do not hold dual citizenship.
What you'll do#
- Determine design parameters in collaboration with the Engineering Manager and Project Engineer.
- Prepare detailed drawings and shop order forms.
- Write purchase requisitions for long-delivery items and additional project requirements.
- Advise the Engineering Manager of any design problems and assist in developing solutions.
- Observe shop progress daily to identify and report potential issues.
- Assist with equipment installation problems as requested.
- Run blueprints for customer approval, shop fabrication, and field installation.
- Maintain and submit accurate weekly time records.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, Aerospace, or Environmental Engineering, or Physics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with management and craft labor.
- Proven ability to establish effective working relationships.
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings, including a background check and drug testing.
