The Pharmacy Intern position at Erie County Medical Center Corporation is a training role designed to provide hands-on experience in the interpretation, compounding, and dispensing of pharmaceutical preparations. Interns work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to gain practical knowledge in the preparation of generic compounds and drugs.
What you'll do#
- Assist licensed pharmacists with the interpretation, compounding, and dispensing of medications.
- Manufacture and package pharmaceuticals while maintaining accurate records.
- Prepare various drugs under direct supervision.
- Review drug literature to identify potential patient incompatibilities.
- Conduct physical pharmacy inventory and maintain necessary documentation.
- Participate in nursing unit inspections and assist with the distribution of medications to nursing units.
What you'll need#
- Possession of a Pharmacy Limited (Intern) Permit issued by the New York State Department of Education, which must be maintained throughout the appointment.
- Strong knowledge of the principles, procedures, and terminology of pharmaceutics.
- Understanding of the pharmacology of compounding drugs within a hospital setting.
- Ability to perform professional pharmaceutical tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
- Proficiency in maintaining pharmacy records and preparing reports.
- Ability to work effectively with others, demonstrating initiative and dependability.
