Intern Pharmacy

About the role#

The Pharmacy Intern position at Erie County Medical Center Corporation is a training role designed to provide hands-on experience in the interpretation, compounding, and dispensing of pharmaceutical preparations. Interns work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to gain practical knowledge in the preparation of generic compounds and drugs.

What you'll do#

• Assist licensed pharmacists with the interpretation, compounding, and dispensing of medications.
• Manufacture and package pharmaceuticals while maintaining accurate records.
• Prepare various drugs under direct supervision.
• Review drug literature to identify potential patient incompatibilities.
• Conduct physical pharmacy inventory and maintain necessary documentation.
• Participate in nursing unit inspections and assist with the distribution of medications to nursing units.

What you'll need#

• Possession of a Pharmacy Limited (Intern) Permit issued by the New York State Department of Education, which must be maintained throughout the appointment.
• Strong knowledge of the principles, procedures, and terminology of pharmaceutics.
• Understanding of the pharmacology of compounding drugs within a hospital setting.
• Ability to perform professional pharmaceutical tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
• Proficiency in maintaining pharmacy records and preparing reports.
• Ability to work effectively with others, demonstrating initiative and dependability.
