The Clinical Associate Intern provides comprehensive psychological services to youth and families within the Dallas County Juvenile Department. This 12-month, full-time internship is designed to provide clinical experience prior to the granting of a doctoral degree. Interns are expected to work 40-45 hours per week, with at least 25% of time dedicated to direct client care. This position involves working in an emotionally demanding environment with juveniles who may have committed aggressive or dangerous acts.
What you'll do#
- Complete psychological assessments, screens, addendums, and family assessments, submitting them for supervision within 24 to 48 hours.
- Conduct individual, group, and family therapy services, maintaining timely written progress notes and documentation.
- Provide on-site stabilization for youth experiencing mental-health crises.
- Participate in trainings, supervision, and staff meetings to support clinical service delivery.
- Serve as a consultant to probation officers, court personnel, attorneys, education staff, and institution professionals regarding youth and family dynamics.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited doctoral (PhD or PsyD) program in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology.
- Completion of at least three years of graduate coursework, 500 hours of supervised practicum work, all required doctoral coursework, and a successfully proposed dissertation.
- Proficiency with standard software applications and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and mandatory drug testing.

- Requirements: This is an essential personnel role. Interns may be subject to mandatory overtime, transfers between facilities, or being called back to work locations as needed.
