This 12-month clinical internship provides comprehensive psychological services to youth and families within the Dallas County Juvenile Department. The program is designed to meet the requirements for doctoral degree completion, requiring a total of 2,000 hours. Interns work 40-45 hours per week, with at least 25% of time dedicated to direct, face-to-face client care. This role involves working in an emotionally demanding environment with juveniles who may have committed aggressive or dangerous acts.
What you'll do#
- Complete psychological assessments, screens, addendums, and family assessments, submitting them for supervision within 24 to 48 hours.
- Conduct individual, group, and family therapy sessions and maintain timely progress notes and documentation.
- Provide on-site crisis stabilization for youth experiencing mental-health emergencies.
- Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and clinical supervision.
- Act as a consultant for probation officers, court personnel, attorneys, and institutional staff to assist in decision-making and disposition planning.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited doctoral program (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology.
- Completion of three years of graduate coursework and all required doctoral coursework.
- Documentation of at least 500 hours of supervised practicum work.
- Successful proposal of your dissertation.
- Proficiency with standard software applications and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and mandatory drug testing.
