Fabrication Technician Intern

About the role#

Comprehensive Prosthetics & Orthotics is seeking a Fabrication Technician Intern to support the hands-on creation, modification, and repair of custom prosthetic and orthotic devices. Working in a clinical fabrication environment, this role provides practical experience with specialized tools, machinery, and materials used to support patient mobility and independence. This is a paid, full-time internship for Summer 2026.

What you'll do#

• Assist with the fabrication, modification, and repair of prosthetic and orthotic devices under supervision.
• Support the preparation, modification, and shaping of plaster molds and positive models.
• Learn to work with a range of materials including thermoplastics, laminations, foam, composites, metals, and specialized prosthetic and orthotic components.
• Operate fabrication machinery and hand tools safely and effectively while following technical documentation and work orders.
• Inspect completed devices to ensure they meet quality, durability, finish, and functional standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment while collaborating with clinicians and lab staff.

What you'll need#

• High school diploma or GED.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn new technical skills.
• Genuine interest in fabrication, manufacturing, healthcare, engineering, or skilled trades.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow directions, ask questions, and adhere to safety protocols in a lab setting.
• Preferred: Current enrollment in or recent completion of a technical, trade, manufacturing, or engineering program, or prior experience with tools and fabrication materials.

Location & details#

• Location: Peoria, Illinois.
• Modality: On-site.
• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM.
• Compensation: $18.00 per hour.
