The Historic Trades internship is a ten to twelve-week experience providing hands-on exposure to museum and living history operations. Interns work directly with the Historic Trades department to assist full-time staff with shop operations, trade demonstrations, production, and research. This role offers an opportunity to develop specific trade skills, gain public contact experience, and learn about professional careers in the museum field.
What you'll do#
- Assist shop staff by interpreting and demonstrating trades to guests.
- Engage in production tasks and complete assigned research projects.
- Provide outstanding customer service to visitors.
- Follow and enforce all established safety and security procedures for the site, tools, materials, and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or HSE.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Previous experience working with the trade.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment and learn new hand skills.

- Term: Summer 2026.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: 40 hours per week for 10-12 weeks.
- Compensation: This is a paid position.
