The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is seeking a Landscape Gardener Intern for the Summer 2026 term. This entry-level position provides hands-on training in garden maintenance, plant identification, and landscape construction. Interns will work directly with senior horticulturists to help restore and maintain the gardens within the Historic Area.
What you'll do#
- Prepare, plant, and maintain seasonal beds of flowers, vegetables, and herbs.
- Prune trees, shrubs, hedges, and espaliered fruit trees, and shear topiary.
- Perform nursery and greenhouse tasks, including planting, transplanting, and propagation.
- Operate and perform basic service on power and hand-held landscape equipment, such as string trimmers, edgers, and leaf blowers.
- Assist with garden detail work including weeding, edging, dead-heading, and raking.
- Gain exposure to integrated pest management, automatic irrigation systems, and arboricultural practices.
- Perform emergency landscaping work as needed due to weather conditions.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one year of college in a major related to horticulture, floriculture, landscaping, arboriculture, or a similar field.
- Knowledge of landscape gardening and maintenance practices.
- Ability to learn specialized topiary and espalier pruning techniques.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- A valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

- Location: Williamsburg, Virginia.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
