Unpaid College Intern - Various City Departments

About the role#

The City of Aurora offers unpaid internship opportunities across various municipal departments, including Community Services, Engineering, Human Resources, Information Technology, the Mayor’s Office, and more. This program provides students with practical experience in local government, offering the chance to build professional connections and gain insight into public service and administration. Interns may be eligible for academic credit and can work flexible schedules ranging from 10 to 40 hours per week.

What you'll do#

• Work alongside city officials and professionals in various departments.
• Help shape local policies, programs, and community events.
• Gain insight into public service and administration.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in an Associates, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree program, or graduation within the previous six months.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Enthusiasm to contribute to city initiatives.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check.

• Location: Aurora, Illinois.
• Modality: On-site.
• Terms: Summer 2026 (June–August) and Fall 2026 (late August/early September–December).
• Compensation: This is an unpaid position.
