About the role#
The Empire State Intern position at Wagon Road Camp runs from June through August 2026. This role supports the daily operations of a summer day camp serving children ages 6-13 from diverse backgrounds. Interns contribute to both facility maintenance and direct camper engagement, helping to provide a traditional camp experience focused on relationship building.
What you'll do#
- Assist maintenance staff with facility preparation, including grounds keeping, painting, moving equipment, and cleaning.
- Support administrative tasks, such as preparing camper files and general office work.
- Work directly with campers as a counselor or assist specialists in implementing programming.
- Create a fun, enjoyable, and respectful environment for all campers.
- Supervise campers throughout the day to ensure safety, resolve conflicts, and encourage inclusive play.
- Lead activities that help campers build relationships, practice good manners, and learn names.
- Manage daily attendance, serve meals and snacks, and safely escort campers to activities.
- Oversee and guide assistant counselors and keep division leaders updated on group status.
- Assist with closing the facility post-camp by storing equipment and performing grounds keeping.
- Participate in three days of training and orientation prior to the start of camp.
