Empire State Intern

About the role#

The Empire State Intern position at Wagon Road Camp runs from June through August 2026. This role supports the daily operations of a summer day camp serving children ages 6-13 from diverse backgrounds. Interns contribute to both facility maintenance and direct camper engagement, helping to provide a traditional camp experience focused on relationship building.

What you'll do#

• Assist maintenance staff with facility preparation, including grounds keeping, painting, moving equipment, and cleaning.
• Support administrative tasks, such as preparing camper files and general office work.
• Work directly with campers as a counselor or assist specialists in implementing programming.
• Create a fun, enjoyable, and respectful environment for all campers.
• Supervise campers throughout the day to ensure safety, resolve conflicts, and encourage inclusive play.
• Lead activities that help campers build relationships, practice good manners, and learn names.
• Manage daily attendance, serve meals and snacks, and safely escort campers to activities.
• Oversee and guide assistant counselors and keep division leaders updated on group status.
• Assist with closing the facility post-camp by storing equipment and performing grounds keeping.
• Participate in three days of training and orientation prior to the start of camp.

• Modality: On-site.
• Compensation: $17 - $20 per hour.
