Data Science Intern

About the role#

Centerfield is seeking a Data Science Intern to join the Engineering department and contribute to systems that process millions of customer conversations. You will work directly with the Data Science team to extract behavioral signals from call data, validate predictive models, and help personalize experiences for over 150 million shoppers. This role focuses on hands-on development, writing production-level code, and delivering analysis that informs business decisions.

What you'll do#

• Analyze call transcripts to build and refine rules that extract behavioral and intent signals.
• Validate predictive models and traits that feed into the customer data platform.
• Profile and clean high-volume data to identify patterns and quality issues.
• Engage with Generative AI workflows, including prompting and evaluation, to assess summary quality.
• Create charts, notebooks, and summaries to communicate findings to technical and business stakeholders.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Solid foundation in Python with experience using libraries such as pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn.
• Working knowledge of machine learning concepts and applied statistics, including regression and classification.
• Proficiency in querying and manipulating data using SQL.
• Genuine interest in LLMs and Generative AI with some hands-on exposure.
• Strong communication skills and a self-starter mindset.

Location & details#

• This is a paid, full-time internship position.
• The role is hybrid, with an expectation to work from the Playa Vista, California office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
• This position is based on a rolling term.
