The Building Condition Assessor intern joins the BGIS Professional Services team to gain hands-on experience in asset management and building science. This role involves conducting site evaluations to identify asset conditions and deficiencies, providing technical data that supports capital project planning, engineering design, and construction management. You will work independently while receiving support from a team of engineering professionals.
What you'll do#
- Conduct site visits at client real estate locations to identify building components and evaluate their condition.
- Use internal BGIS software to generate reports for the RealAsset management platform.
- Provide recommendations and cost estimates for the repair or replacement of building envelopes and systems for inclusion in capital budget plans.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- University or college diploma in a relevant technical field, such as architectural, civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering, building science, or building engineering.
- General knowledge of cost estimating processes for building component repairs and replacements.
- Foundational understanding of building science, including architectural building envelopes, mechanical and electrical systems, and general commercial building design and operation.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and the ability to learn new software applications quickly.
- Strong written communication skills and a detail-oriented approach.
- Ability to work independently and learn new tasks efficiently.
- Enrollment as an EIT, P.Eng, C.Tech, or RET is considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Markham, Ontario, Canada.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September–December).
- Work Modality: On-site; must be able to travel to the Markham office and comfortable traveling to various sites with senior team members.
- Status: Paid, full-time internship.
