Renaissance Economic Development Corporation (REDC), a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), is seeking a Business Advisor Support Intern to assist our team in serving small businesses throughout New York City. This role offers hands-on exposure to small business counseling, loan application support, and community engagement. You will learn how a CDFI supports diverse low-to-moderate income businesses through access to capital and financial education.
What you'll do#
- Participate in outreach activities across NYC, including events, tabling, and community partner engagement.
- Provide translation and interpretation services between Tagalog, Thai, or Vietnamese and English during client meetings and workshops.
- Assist Business Advisors with client intake, scheduling, and follow-up communications.
- Support the preparation of loan application packages by gathering documentation, organizing files, and ensuring completeness.
- Maintain accurate client records in Salesforce and assist with data entry and reporting.
- Develop and distribute workshop and marketing materials covering topics such as financial literacy, digital marketing, and business planning.
- Conduct market research and collect community resource information.
- Shadow Business Advisors to learn about counseling, small business operations, and loan processing.
What you'll need#
- Current student or recent graduate in Business, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Fluency in Tagalog, Thai, or Vietnamese (spoken and written) is required.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with a detail-oriented approach.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; experience with Salesforce or other CRM software is a plus.
- Interest in economic development, community impact, entrepreneurship, and small business finance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a mission-driven team.
- Commitment to supporting diverse, low-to-moderate-income communities.
Location & details#
- Location: On-site in Flushing, NY, with occasional travel to other NYC boroughs.
- Schedule: Part-time (10-15 hours per week) during the semester, with a full-time option available in the summer.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship with an hourly rate commensurate with experience.
