McMullan Arts Leadership Internship, Photography and Media

About the role#

The McMullan Arts Leadership Internship in Photography and Media offers an opportunity to gain experience in collection management and curation. Working under the guidance of the collection manager and department curators, the intern will contribute to the care and interpretation of the museum's photography and media collection. This role is part of a museum-wide program designed to support students in developing the skills and networks necessary for future leadership in art museums.

What you'll do#

• Assist the collection manager with collection reorganization and cataloging.
• Conduct research for specific objects and upcoming exhibitions.
• Pursue independent research to develop web-based content for collection objects.
• Participate in regular departmental meetings and mentorship sessions.
• Attend museum practice seminars and professional development programs designed for the intern cohort.

What you'll need#

• Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate (within one year of graduation).
• Academic focus in art history, media studies, cultural/visual studies, design, or arts administration.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong writing, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Suite.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Basic knowledge of photographic history and technique is preferred.
• Applicants must be based in or attending school in the Chicagoland area for the duration of the internship.

• Location: Chicago, Illinois.
• Work Modality: On-site.
• Schedule: Part-time, 14 hours per week (up to 448 total hours over 32 weeks).
• Compensation: Paid at $17.50 per hour.
