About the role#
The McMullan Arts Leadership Internship at the Ryan Learning Center offers an opportunity for aspiring museum professionals to contribute to Creative Spaces, a division dedicated to designing family art-making programs and interactive learning installations. This role provides mentorship and integration into a museum-wide intern cohort, focusing on professional development and career awareness within the arts. The program is designed to support students who encounter economic challenges when considering a career in the arts.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to the development of art-making programs for multigenerational audiences, including attendance at planning meetings.
- Support monthly family events by assisting teaching artists and interacting with visitors.
- Work regular shifts in the Art Exchange, welcoming and assisting children and caregivers with play-based learning.
- Prepare art supplies for programs and large-scale events.
- Assist with the installation, care, and maintenance of interactive learning displays.
- Administer evaluation tools to audiences and collect data.
- Participate in department meetings and museum-wide intern programming.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student status, or recent graduation within the past year.
- Major or focus in art education, studio art, museum studies, or a related field.
- Experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring children in formal or informal settings.
- Familiarity with art-making materials and techniques.
- Strong communication, creative thinking, and collaborative skills.
- Spanish-language fluency is considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Chicago, Illinois.
- Modality: This is a fully on-site position. Applicants must be based in or attending school in the Chicagoland area.
- Schedule: This is a part-time, 32-week position requiring 14 hours per week for a total of up to 448 hours. Work occurs between Monday and Friday.
- Compensation: This is a paid position at $17.50 per hour.
