Arcadia Science is seeking an Innovation Fellow to join the Pilots team for a 3-month fellowship. This role is designed for scientists in the final stages of their PhD or postdoc training who want to experience high-risk research in an industry setting. Fellows will prototype tools or devise novel approaches for efficient scientific inquiry, using strategically chosen biological questions as a test bed. The goal is to scope projects with clear decision points and publish results openly by the end of the fellowship.
What you'll do#
- Execute a defined pilot project in coordination with current team members.
- Familiarize yourself with internal platform capabilities.
- Identify key risks early and optimize for failing fast to ensure promising directions are pursued and dead ends are abandoned quickly.
- Establish and track go/no-go decision points for your project.
- Collaborate with a technically diverse team and contribute to collaborative ideation.
- Keep detailed experimental records and documentation for all workflows.
- Publish results openly and share data, code, protocols, and methods by the end of the fellowship.
What you'll need#
- PhD in life sciences, bioengineering, or a related field; 3+ years of post-PhD experience is preferred.
- Hands-on experience in both wet lab work and computational analysis.
- Strong programming skills, specifically in Python and/or R.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills with a comfort for rapid iteration.
- Experience troubleshooting experimental or computational challenges.

- Location: On-site in Emeryville, California.
- Term: 3-month fellowship.
- Status: Full-time and paid.
- Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship is available for qualified candidates.
- Eligibility: Majors in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science.
