Apera AI is seeking a Roboticist Co-op for an 8-month term. This role focuses on the integration of mechanical engineering and mechatronics into robotics projects, working alongside engineers and researchers to develop, test, and implement robotic systems that operate in complex environments.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with senior engineers to create and optimize robot programs using 3D vision software for tasks like bin picking and path planning.
- Contribute to the design of fixtures, camera mounts, and end-of-arm tooling (EOAT).
- Build, assemble, and test mechanical components and robotic systems to ensure performance and reliability.
- Support R&D in mechatronics, automation, and robotics by integrating new hardware solutions.
- Collect and analyze experimental data to evaluate performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and propose design improvements.
- Maintain records of designs and experiments and contribute to technical documentation.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure the integration of vision systems and mechanical components.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Strong mechanical design skills, including proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks.
- Interest in robotics, computer vision, and mechatronics concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork abilities.
- Familiarity with industrial robotics, end-of-arm tooling, and sensors is an asset.
- Experience with extracurricular mechatronics projects is a plus.

- Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Term: Fall 2027.
- Compensation: CAD $3,600 to $4,500 per month.
- Status: Paid, full-time.
