Software Developer - C++ (Co-op)

About the role#

Apera AI is seeking a Software Developer (Co-op) to join the Apera Vue engineering team for an 8-month term from September 2026 to April 2027. You will contribute to the development of real-time machine vision applications that power robotic systems in manufacturing and automation environments. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position based in Vancouver.

What you'll do#

• Develop and ship core C++ features for the Apera Vue application.
• Support robotic integration and image processing by testing and debugging vision system behavior with physical robotic systems.
• Improve code quality through unit testing, test coverage expansion, refactoring, and participation in code review sessions.
• Participate in daily standups and planning sessions with the engineering team.
• Contribute to technical documentation and developer notes for team members.
• Validate code in a live robotic lab environment and investigate edge cases or performance issues.

What you'll need#

• Strong knowledge of C++, including object-oriented design and memory management.
• Solid foundation in linear algebra, vectors, and 3D transforms.
• Experience with version control, specifically Git.
• Previous experience with software projects through coursework, personal work, or prior co-ops and internships.
• Enrollment in a degree program related to Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mathematics.
• Bonus: Experience in Linux development environments.

• Compensation: CAD $3,600 to $4,500 per month.
