WAMU HR Assistant - Onboarding (Student)

About the role#

WAMU 88.5 is seeking an undergraduate student to support HR-led onboarding review and improvement efforts. This paid, part-time position works under the guidance of the HR Generalist to research current practices, organize feedback, and develop new resources to enhance the onboarding experience for new employees.

What you'll do#

• Support HR-led onboarding review and improvement efforts across WAMU.
• Gather information through manager interviews to identify current onboarding practices, common gaps, and resource needs.
• Document and organize findings, feedback, and materials into a structured format.
• Identify common themes, pain points, and functional differences across teams.
• Draft onboarding tools such as checklists, welcome guides, first-week schedules, and FAQs.
• Present summarized findings and draft recommendations to HR leadership.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at American University in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Slack.
• Previous internship, campus leadership, or administrative experience is preferred.

Location & details#

• Location: Washington, DC (4401 Connecticut Campus).
• Modality: Hybrid. Requires 4 hours of onsite work per week on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday; remaining hours may be completed remotely.
• Hours: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week.
• Compensation: $18.40 – $20.00 per hour.
• Term: Rolling, ending on 12/31/26.
• Eligibility: This position is available only to currently enrolled American University students.
