The Program Specialist, Student Transitions & Engagement supports initiatives designed to assist new undergraduate and graduate students and their families with their transition into the university community. This role focuses on orientation, retention, and transition programming, including major events like New Student Orientation, First 40, and Winter Welcome. This is a time-limited position for up to two years.
What you'll do#
- Program Development & Coordination: Collaborate with academic and student affairs departments to plan and execute orientation and transition programs. Responsibilities include event planning, marketing, volunteer recruitment, registration, budget management, and on-call emergency management.
- Parent & Family Weekend: Serve as the central coordinator for Parent & Family Weekend. This includes managing logistics, overseeing volunteer and student staff, maintaining the event website, and providing on-site support and troubleshooting.
- Office Operations: Manage day-to-day office functions, including maintaining departmental websites and managing shared email inboxes. Act as a primary point of contact for phone and email inquiries, ensuring professional communication and operational continuity.
- Communications: Coordinate printed publications, digital and social media content, and ongoing website maintenance.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience supervising undergraduate and graduate-level student staff.
- Knowledge of student development theory and its application in staff training.
- One to three years of professional experience in a university setting.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required for events and committee meetings.
