The Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs offers law students hands-on experience in civil rights litigation and advocacy. Interns work under the supervision of experienced staff on a variety of assignments, including factual and legal research, drafting memos or pleadings, and participating in case strategy sessions.
What you'll do#
Interns contribute to the organization's litigation and advocacy agenda by supporting work in the following areas:
- Creating equal opportunity to economic stability.
- Challenging racial and economic segregation and barriers to safe, decent, and affordable housing.
- Reducing barriers to public services and public accommodations.
- Creating equal opportunity for education.
- Advocating on behalf of DC prisoners and addressing inequities in the criminal legal system.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a law student.
- A demonstrated interest in and commitment to civil rights and social justice.
- Availability for the Fall 2026 term.
- Ability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week.
- Ability to receive school credit, as this internship is unpaid.
