As a Sonographer Intern at UNM Hospital, you will work under the direct supervision of a registered (RDMS) Sonographer to gain hands-on experience in diagnostic medical sonography. This role involves participating in both the clinical and administrative aspects of ultrasound studies, supporting patient care across all age groups from neonates to geriatrics. You will assist in maintaining exam rooms, preparing equipment, and ensuring adherence to hospital safety and infectious disease protocols.
What you'll do#
- Assist with preparing exam rooms and ultrasound equipment in accordance with sterilization and patient safety policies.
- Support Sonographers by reviewing patient medical history and clinical information.
- Participate in diagnostic medical sonography examinations and help conduct patient clinical assessments.
- Under the direction of a Sonographer, perform or review examinations to ensure clinical conditions are accurately captured in images.
- Assist with synthesizing examination results and preparing preliminary findings.
- Contribute to Quality Assurance protocols, equipment cleaning, and inventory management, including stocking medical supplies and performing crash cart checks.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a current ARDMS Ultrasound Training Program within the last six months.
- Ability to obtain CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers certification within 30 days of hire.
- No minimum experience is required.
- Ability to perform medium work, including moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
