About the role#
The Co-op Research Student I position in the Electronics Shop provides a comprehensive learning experience for students enrolled in an engineering program. This role focuses on professional development through hands-on technical work and mentorship within the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. The position is on-site and offers compensation between $17.50 and $22.79 per hour.
What you'll do#
- Divide time across PCB assembly and testing, CAD drawings, PCB layout, cable or wiring harness manufacturing, PCB debug, and mechanical chassis machining.
- Apply classroom theories to real-world professional projects under the guidance of mentors.
- Utilize specialized instrumentation, equipment, software, and other technologies.
- Participate in seminars or workshops focused on project design, time management, data analysis, and communication.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
- Attend team meetings and establish effective relationships with professional colleagues.
- Abide by all departmental policies, procedures, and work regulations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an academic program that allows for academic credit for working.
- Pursuit of a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Industrial, Biomedical, Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering.
- Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical, professional situations.
- Preferred experience includes knowledge of circuit board design, circuit board assembly, wiring, and the use of oscilloscopes.
