Director Student Athlete Experience and High Performance Sport

About the role#

The Director of Student Athlete Experience and High Performance Sport provides leadership for the University of Guelph’s varsity programs. Reporting to the Senior Director of Athletics and Recreation, this role is responsible for establishing a high-performance sport model that aligns with institutional priorities and provincial and national standards, including OUA and U SPORTS. The Director acts as a senior leader focused on high-performance outcomes, student-athlete development, and coaching excellence.

What you'll do#

• Establish and implement a high-performance sport model for the university.
• Provide expert guidance on the development of performance frameworks and policies.
• Lead a diverse team of coaches and professional staff, overseeing recruitment, performance management, and professional development.
• Plan and oversee varsity sport budgets, ensuring financial resources align with strategic priorities.
• Manage complex student-athlete and team-related matters while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate across campus to strengthen athlete support systems and revenue generation strategies.

What you'll need#

• Management-level experience in athletic programming and/or coaching.
• Experience with post-secondary athletics programming, including knowledge of OUA and U SPORTS practices.
• Demonstrated experience in equity-related strategy and policy implementation.
• Strong budget and financial management skills.
• An understanding of best practices for promoting holistic student wellbeing and safety.
• Ability to exercise significant decision-making authority with political acuity and judgment.
