Academic Support Tutor for Student with Multiple Disabilities

About the role#

This position involves providing one-on-one academic support for a nonverbal student with multiple disabilities in Sun Valley, California. The student communicates through eye gaze, facial expressions, and behavioral cues. The tutor will work in a structured, consistent environment to help the student develop functional literacy, math, and independent living skills.

What you'll do#

• Provide individualized instruction in general academic assistance and executive functioning.
• Adapt lessons to meet the specific needs of a nonverbal student.
• Utilize hands-on learning activities and manipulatives to support engagement.
• Interpret and respond to nontraditional communication methods.
• Support the development of functional literacy, math, and problem-solving skills.
• Collaborate with facility staff and support providers to ensure consistent care and instruction.

What you'll need#

• Extensive experience working with nonverbal students with multiple disabilities.
• A strong background in special education and providing individualized academic support.
• Proficiency in interpreting nontraditional communication, including eye gaze and facial expressions.
• Experience teaching students with significant developmental, physical, and communication challenges.
• Ability to adapt curriculum and instruction to meet highly individualized learning needs.
• Experience using manipulatives for functional math and life skills instruction.

Location & details#

• Location: Sun Valley, California (On-site).
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
• Total commitment: 160 hours.
• Employment type: Full-time.
• Academic background: Preferred majors include Psychology, Sociology, or Nursing.
