The ThinkBIG Student program is a two-year education and training pathway designed to prepare students for a career as a heavy equipment technician. Through a partnership with South Georgia Technical College (SGTC), participants earn an Associate Degree in Heavy Equipment Dealers Service Technology. The program focuses on heavy equipment engines, marine propulsion systems, and power generator repair. Thompson Tractor covers the cost of tuition, books, and lab fees for the duration of the program.
What you'll do#
- Complete paid, rotating 8-week internships at the Birmingham branch.
- Attend 8-week classroom and lab sessions at SGTC.
- Receive Caterpillar-specific technical training and perform advanced diagnostics on heavy equipment.
- Utilize tools, a toolbox, and uniforms provided by Thompson Tractor.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Ability to pass a drug screen, physical, and background check.
- Meet admission standards for both SGTC and Thompson Tractor, including qualifying ACT, SAT, COMPASS, or ACCUPLACER scores.
