Student Financial Services Counselor

About the role#

The Student Financial Services Counselor provides student-focused support to advise students and families through financial aid, registration, and payment processes. This role requires a sophisticated understanding of institutional policies and the ability to explain complex financial procedures clearly to students and their families.

What you'll do#

• Disseminate accurate information using workshops, individual appointments, web tools, email, social media, and telephone.
• Analyze student files to make independent determinations regarding financial aid eligibility, including awarding and processing paperwork.
• Process, post, and reconcile student payments and deposits on a daily basis.
• Conduct financial aid presentations during freshman and transfer information sessions and other admissions events.
• Assist students in developing financial plans to cover unmet needs and meet payment deadlines.
• Identify students leaving the institution to prepare and conduct exit interviews and perform necessary refund calculations.
• Collaborate with internal departments to support enrollment, retention, and student satisfaction goals.

What you'll need#

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in student accounts, financial aid, or a related office environment.
• Minimum of one year of customer service or support experience in an office setting.
• Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to provide high-level service responsiveness to customers.
• Ability to use sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive issues.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
