Accounting Intern

About the role#

The Accounting Intern supports the Accounting team at Stein's Garden & Home by assisting with accounts payable activities, financial data maintenance, and reconciliations. This role provides hands-on experience in a retail environment while developing practical skills in financial analysis and business process improvement. You will work closely with the Accounting, Purchasing, Human Resources, and Operations teams to ensure accurate financial records and operational efficiency.

What you'll do#

• Assist with invoice entry, coding, and verification to ensure timely and accurate processing.
• Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documentation, and research any discrepancies.
• Help maintain vendor records, including tax information and contact data.
• Communicate with vendors and internal departments regarding payment status and invoice issues.
• Support weekly check runs and electronic payment processing.
• Participate in special accounting and finance projects focused on process improvement and operational efficiency.
• Assist with account reconciliations, data analysis, report development, and research assignments.
• Maintain the confidentiality of financial information.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Completed introductory accounting coursework is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
