Pharmacy Intern

About the role#

The Pharmacy Intern role provides technical and clerical support for the pharmaceutical department at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Under the direction of the Manager of Inpatient Pharmacy Services, interns assist in the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical supplies, including unit dose medications, outpatient prescriptions, and investigational drugs. This position requires a commitment to working every other weekend and one evening each week, with opportunities for additional hours during summer and winter breaks to support patient care and professional development.

What you'll do#

• Prepare unit dose medications, outpatient prescriptions, and intravenous admixtures.
• Perform computer order entry of patient medication orders and maintain accurate patient records.
• Verify labeled doses against patient orders under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Assist in the management of investigational drugs, including compounding and inventory maintenance.
• Conduct nursing unit inspections and assist in the replenishment of nursing floor stock.
• Complete charges and credits in a timely and accurate manner.
• Handle cytotoxic agents in accordance with established safety protocols.
• Facilitate workflow in both inpatient and outpatient dispensing areas.

What you'll need#

• Completion of two years of college with acceptance or enrollment at an accredited college of pharmacy.
• Familiarity with the terminology and abbreviations necessary to process patient orders.
• Knowledge of the appropriate and safe handling of cytotoxic agents.
• Previous pharmacy experience is desirable.
