The Archivist Intern supports the Telegraph Museum’s archive organization and collections documentation. This role focuses on cataloging, physical organization, photography, and records support to improve access to collection materials and prepare artifacts for research and display. The position provides hands-on experience in archival organization, collections management, and museum support.
What you'll do#
- Create, update, and maintain records in the collections management system.
- Sort, label, and organize archival and museum materials.
- Conduct descriptive cataloging of records and extract data into spreadsheets.
- Research records, events, and figures to enrich museum history and metadata.
- Digitize records by scanning or photographing and create metadata for the digital asset management system.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
- Handle awkward, heavy, or brittle items with care.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate, graduate, or recent graduate in Museum Studies, Art History, History, Archaeology, Anthropology, Library Science, Archival Studies, or a related field.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Demonstrated interest in history, archives, library sciences, or museum studies.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience in organization, cataloging, or curating.
Location & details#
- Location: Lincoln, Nebraska.
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Physical requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, push or pull up to 50 pounds, and work with dusty materials. The role involves standing, pushing heavy carts, and using protective gear.
