Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking a part-time Quantum-Optical Technician Intern to join the Strategic & Military Space division for Summer 2026. This role is embedded within an Air Force Research Laboratory facility, where you will assist scientists and engineers in advancing quantum sensing, integrated photonics, and laser telecommunications technologies for national security applications.
What you'll do#
- Support quantum and optical experiments in collaboration with research teams.
- Build, fabricate, and assemble mechanical and electrical components for experimental setups.
- Perform alignment of free-space optics and splice optical fiber components.
- Record and compile detailed measurements gathered from experimental apparatus.
- Work effectively within diverse, interdisciplinary teams.
What you'll need#
- Hands-on laboratory experience in quantum, optical, or electrical science and engineering.
- Certification from the CNM Quantum Technician Bootcamp Program.
- Ability to commit to 25 hours of work per week.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including a creative and detail-oriented approach.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
- Preferred experience includes fiber-optic splicing, cable building, and PCB soldering.
