The Summer Student for the Indigenous Food Sovereignty Program will support daily activities aimed at increasing community access to healthy and traditional foods. This 12-week, full-time contract position involves working under the direction of the Integrated Care Manager and the Food Sovereignty Coordinator to facilitate food-based programming and community initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Support the planning and coordination of food sovereignty initiatives.
- Assist with the distribution of farm boxes and food hub supplies.
- Help manage community garden and greenhouse activities.
- Facilitate community meals and food-related programming.
- Coordinate the ordering and distribution of Traditional Food (TF) bags.
- Collaborate with a graduate research student from Western University and provide general program support.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary program is preferred, particularly in fields such as Public Health, Nursing, Agriculture, or Nutrition.
- Demonstrated interest in Indigenous food sovereignty or community health.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to perform light physical tasks, such as lifting and carrying food boxes or setting up for events.
- Comfort working in outdoor environments, including gardens and greenhouses, in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work in a culturally respectful and community-centered environment.
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check and proof of up-to-date immunizations are required as conditions of employment.
Location & details#
- Location: London, Ontario.
- Term: Summer 2026 (12-week contract).
- Schedule: Full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Compensation: $22.82 per hour plus 6% vacation pay.
- Pension: Optional participation in the HOOPP defined benefit pension plan.
