The Transmitter is seeking a science reporting intern to join its newsroom in New York City for the fall of 2026. This role provides an opportunity for an emerging journalist to cover developments in neuroscience, genetics, cognition, and behavior. The position requires a minimum of 32 hours per week and runs from September 8 to December 17, 2026.
What you'll do#
- Pitch, report, and write news articles for The Transmitter.
- Learn the fundamentals of science journalism while producing work for publication.
- Help scientists at all career stages stay informed on current research.
- Complete the internship with a portfolio of published clips.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
What you'll need#
- A bachelor’s degree, preferably in a scientific discipline such as biology, psychology, or a related field.
- Graduate-level journalism coursework is preferred.
- A strong background or interest in neuroscience, genetics, cognition, and behavior.
- Familiarity with and commitment to journalistic ethics.
- Relevant academic or professional experience in journalism, communications, or English.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site role based in New York, New York.
- The position is paid at a rate of $20 to $25 per hour, depending on degree level.
