Selfhelp Community Services is seeking a Master of Social Work Intern for the Fall 2026 term. Under the supervision of a Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI)-certified Social Worker, this full-time, paid internship provides support and assistance to older adult clients across various programs, including Case Management, Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORC), and the Holocaust Survivor Program.
What you'll do#
- Conduct home visits and assess clients in their homes, hospitals, or other institutional settings.
- Perform intakes, provide referrals, and assist clients with applications and re-certifications for entitlements and benefits.
- Advocate on behalf of clients, arrange services, and develop or follow up on care plans.
- Provide supportive counseling and maintain ongoing communication with clients, their families, and other collaterals.
- Facilitate social, recreational, and group activities.
- Complete accurate case notes and maintain documentation in the program’s data system according to organizational and agency standards.
- Participate in supervision, staff meetings, and trainings with community agencies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Master of Social Work student.
- Experience working with older adult clients.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficiency in conducting client assessments.
- Familiarity with government entitlements and benefits.
