Social Work Internship

About the role#

Selfhelp Community Services is seeking a Master of Social Work Intern for the Fall 2026 term. Under the supervision of a Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI)-certified Social Worker, this full-time, paid internship provides support and assistance to older adult clients across various programs, including Case Management, Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORC), and the Holocaust Survivor Program.

What you'll do#

• Conduct home visits and assess clients in their homes, hospitals, or other institutional settings.
• Perform intakes, provide referrals, and assist clients with applications and re-certifications for entitlements and benefits.
• Advocate on behalf of clients, arrange services, and develop or follow up on care plans.
• Provide supportive counseling and maintain ongoing communication with clients, their families, and other collaterals.
• Facilitate social, recreational, and group activities.
• Complete accurate case notes and maintain documentation in the program’s data system according to organizational and agency standards.
• Participate in supervision, staff meetings, and trainings with community agencies.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment as a Master of Social Work student.
• Experience working with older adult clients.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proficiency in conducting client assessments.
• Familiarity with government entitlements and benefits.
