About the role#
The Community Health Assistant Intern program is a partnership between the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the San Francisco Department of Public Health. This initiative supports underserved communities by creating low-barrier pathways to HIV and STI care. Interns work alongside clinicians, health navigators, and community staff to gain hands-on experience in sexual health, substance use services, and public health advocacy.
What you'll do#
- Receive hands-on training in community health and clinical support areas.
- Participate in mandatory HIV/HCV/STI and Overdose Prevention Test Counselor Training.
- Provide client-centered care ranging from intake to health navigation.
- Contribute to evidence-based sexual health programs.
- Engage in mentorship and individualized learning opportunities tailored to your professional goals.
What you'll need#
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Availability to work 12 to 20 hours per week, including at least three shifts during the week.
- Ability to attend a mandatory week-long HIV/Hepatitis C Test Counselor Training in 2026.
- Proficiency in common computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- Ability to communicate professionally via email and phone.
- Interest in working with diverse communities and practicing cultural humility.

- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $24 per hour.
- Schedule: Part-time, 12 to 20 hours per week, with some potential for evening or weekend shifts.
