About the role#
The Provo Mayor's Office Internship Program offers hands-on experience in local government by working directly with the Mayor and office staff. This paid, part-time position provides broad exposure to municipal functions through professional mentorship and experiential learning. The role is intentionally flexible, allowing interns to tailor their experience to their interests while exploring potential careers in public service.
What you'll do#
- Assist with communications, constituent correspondence, research, and special projects.
- Build relationships with city leaders, department directors, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
- Gain exposure to multiple city departments and functions through structured learning opportunities.
- Attend in-person meetings and events.
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders using strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and good judgment as a representative of the office.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the start date.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Ability to work up to 20 hours per week.
- Experience that demonstrates an ability to perform the work.
- Interest in local government, public service, and community engagement.
- Preferred backgrounds include Political Science, Public Health, Communications, or Business Administration.
Location & details#
- Location: Provo City Center, Provo, UT.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $15.00 per hour.
- Duration: 4 to 8 months, aligned with university semesters.
- Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week, with flexibility to select hours between Monday and Thursday, 7am to 6pm.
