The Philadelphia Museum of Art is seeking a Women’s Committee Library and Archives Fellow for a one-year term. This fellowship is designed to provide professional experience in assessing and processing library and archival materials, with a specific focus on improving the discoverability of collections documenting women and underrepresented groups. The fellow will work under the supervision of the Martha Hamilton Morris Archivist and present their accomplishments to The Women’s Committee.
What you'll do#
- Assess Artist Files by conducting collection reviews and surveys according to established policies.
- Research and implement best practices for organizing Artist Files, including outreach to peer institutions.
- Develop project plans for managing, weeding, and migrating ephemera to improve access for local, women, and underrepresented artists.
- Process two unprocessed archival collections by drafting inventories and descriptive metadata.
- Utilize archival documentation systems for bulk imports and metadata entry.
- Coordinate and lead tours of the Library and Archives for The Women’s Committee members.
- Present project outcomes to The Women’s Committee and at a professional conference.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a graduate program in Library and Information Science, Archives, or a related field.
- Experience with metadata work, processing, and describing archival collections.
- Familiarity with archival metadata standards such as DACS, ISAD(G), MARC21, RDA, AAT, and ULAN.
- Knowledge of archival practices, tools, and collection management systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds and perform administrative duties in an office or gallery environment.
