Intern, AI and Digital Innovation

About the role#

This internship offers a practical, hands-on opportunity to engage with applied AI and emerging technologies within a social justice and nonprofit context. Working with the Accelerate Digital Agility Planning Team (ADAPT), you will support the responsible adoption of AI tools and workflows across the organization, helping to align initiatives with Oxfam’s mission and values.

What you'll do#

• Support the coordination of the AI Discovery Lab and Study Group.
• Maintain an inventory of ongoing and proposed AI initiatives across various teams.
• Track use cases, pilots, lessons learned, and outcomes of AI experiments within Oxfam and the broader NGO sector.
• Assist with small pilots and proofs of concept under the guidance of the ADAPT team.
• Research and experiment with chatbots, generative AI tools, and AI-assisted workflows for research, communications, and internal processes.
• Evaluate AI tools for usefulness, accessibility, and potential risks.
• Develop guidance materials, such as FAQs and job aids, to support staff learning and responsible AI use.

What you'll need#

• Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Engineering, Information Systems Management, or a related field.
• Demonstrated interest in AI, emerging technologies, and their real-world applications.
• Familiarity with generative AI tools, chatbots, or AI-assisted workflows.
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.
