COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING INTERN

About the role#

Opportunity Finance Network is seeking a Communications and Marketing Intern to join the Strategic Communications team. This role provides hands-on experience in digital marketing, media relations, website content, and event marketing. Interns will support projects related to OFN42 and other communications initiatives, gaining exposure to nonprofit communications and community development finance.

What you'll do#

• Conduct daily health scans across communications channels and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Draft, schedule, and maintain social media content and editorial calendars.
• Monitor media coverage and prepare daily news clips for leadership.
• Update and quality-check website content.
• Support newsletter and email production.
• Create graphics and digital assets using design tools.
• Assist with event marketing and content production.
• Track communications performance metrics and reporting.
• Maintain project trackers, calendars, and workflow tools.
• Research, proofread, and edit communications materials.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program, or recent graduation.
• Majors in Communications, Marketing, Public Health, Journalism, or Business Administration.
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
• Interest in communications, marketing, public affairs, nonprofit work, or community development.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and communications platforms, including WordPress, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Mailchimp, Meltwater, Google Analytics, Asana, and AI-enabled tools.

Location & details#

• Location: Washington, DC.
• Modality: Hybrid.
• Compensation: $25 per hour.
• Schedule: Rolling term. Summer schedule is 20–25 hours per week; academic year schedule is 10–20 hours per week with flexibility around class schedules.
